CORALIA

A CHOIR OF EXCELLENCE

Founded in 1982 by its current conductor, Doctor Carmen Acevedo Lucío, Coralia – Concert Choir of the University of Puerto Rico – emerged with the aim of exploring a repertoire that presents significant artistic, academic, and interpretative challenges. For this reason, the ensemble consists of students and alumni of the University of Puerto Rico, who bring extensive and solid musical experience to the group.

Their repertoire spans all historical musical periods, including folk, Latin American, and Puerto Rican works. Throughout their musical journey, Coralia has represented Puerto Rican culture on prominent stages, elevating the name of Puerto Rico in various choral festivals and competitions. Undoubtedly, it stands as the Puerto Rican choral group with the most international presence, leaving its mark in numerous countries such as Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, France, Canada, the United States, South America, and the Caribbean.

Coralia has achieved numerous awards, including 15 first places in polyphony and sacred music categories, prizes for the best interpretation of folk and Renaissance polyphonic music, and twice receiving the award for the "Best Choir" among all participating choirs in renowned international competitions.

After Hurricane Maria, in collaboration with the University of Puerto Rico Choir, they decided to take action and contribute to the country's reconstruction by doing what they do best – singing. Thus, Canta y Siembra, Resuena la Esperanza (Resounding Hope) was born, a project that became an unforgettable moment in the trajectory of both groups. With the mission of providing physical and spiritual relief to the areas most affected by the hurricane, they distributed supplies, performed multiple concerts, and concluded each visit by planting native trees to restore the country after the destruction and deforestation.

Coralia is a Puerto Rican musical ensemble with deep-rooted tradition. Its legacy is evident in the more than 100 former and current members who have been part of its undeniable history. It stands on the stage to preserve Puerto Rican choral tradition and provide listeners with a high-reaching choral experience.
